What is Bodywork?

From Hawaiian Lomi Lomi to Estonian smoke saunas, from Japanese onsens to Jordanian hammams — every culture on Earth has developed its own way of caring for the body. These traditions are ancient, diverse, and deeply human.

BODYWORK is a cinematic series that travels the world to explore these practices — not with how-to tutorials or spa reviews, but through the lens of documentary storytelling. Real practitioners. Real places. Real perspective.

"It's also helpful to realize that this very body that we have, that's sitting here right now… with its aches and its pleasures… is exactly what we need to be fully human, fully awake, and fully alive."

The Story

Born From Curiosity

It started with a Lomi Lomi massage in a breezy screened hut in Hawai'i. After the session ended, I asked the practitioner, "What is Lomi Lomi? Where can I learn more?" — and realized there was no single, beautiful, comprehensive source for the world's bodywork traditions.

Over the next decade, while filming documentaries for brands around the world, I sought out local bodywork sessions everywhere I traveled — from deprivation tanks in South Africa to smoke saunas in Estonia. I was cataloging, doing pre-production for this project.

BODYWORK is the result: a cinematic series that takes these practices out of local obscurity and into the lives of millions of people, for the better.
